The print was cut in December 1920, presumably to mark the 150th anniversary of Beethoven’s birthday, 16 Dec 1770. This impression is offered now to celebrate the 250th anniversary. The facial features are based on the life mask of the composer (by the sculptor Franz Klein). Below the gold laurel leaves are the notes of the opening theme of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.
