Hill-Stone

For London Original Print Week we have added some rarities in Danish and English prints.  We are particularly interested in Melchior Lorck as he is the most neglected genius in Northern Europe in the 16th century.  Contact us for other Lorck in stock.  The Northcote and Westall are both extreme rarities and beautiful images.

Hill-Stone are private dealers in prints and drawings from the 15th century to the early years of the 20th century. Founded over forty years ago by Alan N. Stone in Northampton, Massachusetts, the firm moved to New York in 1980 and relocated to South Dartmouth, Massachusetts in 2013. Lesley Hill is, as the name of the firm suggests, the other principal.

As private dealers, Mr. Stone and Ms. Hill have pursued interests somewhat apart from the traditional canons of taste. While they have always maintained a strong interest in German prints of the Renaissance and Dutch prints and drawings of the 17th century, it is the art of the 16th century in Italy, France and the Netherlands that they have chosen to explore more fully.
Their other great interest is the art of the later 18th and early 19th centuries with a specific concentration on Romanticism and Neoclassicism in all its national manifestations. Their passion for the curious and the arcane is, if it be a fault, one to which they will readily admit.

They see clients by appointment. Institutional clients include The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the British Museum, the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, the Louvre, Yale University Art Gallery, Smith College Museum, Saint Louis Art Museum, Cleveland Museum of Art, National Gallery of Art, Washington, National Gallery of Canada, Davis Museum at Wellesley College, Fogg Art Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Art Institute of Chicago and the Getty Museum, among others.

Hill-Stone was one of the original exhibitors at the London Original Print Fair, and we are happy to present a small selection from our large inventory of Old Master and modern Graphic Art. We are now working with a British colleague who will serve as a UK representative for Hill-Stone, in that we will be able to send directly to her works for inspection by prospective purchasers. As she is an expert with much hands-on experience and strong academic credentials, she will be able to offer additional sound advice to clients who who wish to examine prints in the original. Shipping and customs clearance will be managed by Hill-Stone  to allow prospective purchasers to consider works with no risk or expense to themselves.
