After Rembrandt. A copy in the right direction and to the same dimensions. Printed on chine appliqué. The support sheet pasted at the four corners to a backing sheet which is inscribed in pencil at the foot “After Rembrandt”.
Occasional pale foxing. The original plate (Bartsch 210) was one of Rembrandt’s earliest landscapes, etched about 1640. A view taken from the Kadijk, on what is now Bickers Island. Lucy Brightwell studied etching with John Sell Cotman. She produced overall about thirty five etchings, including a few original landscapes but mainly copies after the old masters.
She made four copies of Rembrandt etchings, all landscapes.The British Museum has a collection of her etchings, as do Norwich Castle Museum, which also own thirty-two of her copper plates.
