Literature: Morane 57.
A superb impression on a full sheet with colours particularly vivid on thick Italian laid paper. Watermark: a moon in a coat of arms. Published by Alfred Jarry for Perhinderion, Paris.
In the short-lived magazine Perhinderion (the title is a Breton word for “pilgrimages”), founded by Alfred Jarry and which had only two issues in March and June 1896, reproductions of subjects engraved on wood by Dürer are juxtaposed with reprints of woodcuts of popular imagery by François Georgin (1801-1863). The Passion, a hand-enhanced zincograph by Émile Bernard, was the only contemporary image in the publication. Jarry announced that the second issue would contain The Annunciation by Bernard – but Morane had never come across a copy including this plate, which he assumes was not completed in time, and therefore finished later, since it is dated 1899.
