Stanley Badmin’s true surname was Badman, and his father suggested adapting it to avert insults at school.

Following two years at Camberwell Badmin, aged eighteen, went to the R.C.A. in 1924. It was in his postgraduate year, 1927-28 that he took up etching, in Robert Austen’s evening classes.

Austin introduced him to the XXI Gallery, his own publisher, who also published Sutherland and Drury. Badmin was given a one man show of his etchings in 1930.

Annotated Trial 7th st. and entitled. Sheet numbered 8/30. On wove paper watermarked Basingwerk parchment. Corner fold line in the bottom left margin. Very faint light staining through window opening of previous mount.
