Unique work. Framed. Scherry’s cyanotype evokes a sense of nostalgia. The Image is from artist’s hometown in China printed on a handkerchief that once belonged to her friend’s grandmother, a European migrant to the UK whom Scherry has never met. This object becomes a quiet point of connection across time and geography. Their shared experiences of migration and diaspora shape this intimate collaboration reflecting on emotional transitions that accompany leaving one place to build a life in another. The use of colour Indigo further gestures towards the histories embedded in the colour itself and explores its links to global trade routes such as silk road, the rise of European industrial demand and the colonial systems that relied on coercive agricultural practices.
