The artist created this beautiful triptych to celebrate his son's wedding, the symbolic phoenix images in the kimono symbolising divine protection and harmony between male and female. Antique toys are depcited on the top right kimono symbolising a future grandchild. The Japanese contemporary mezzotint artists are renowned for their skill in adding colour to the black and greys of traditional mezzotint. Hamanishi's works are included in the permanent collections of the British Museum and Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY.
