One of Kelly's earlier works utilising thicker Indian cotton to achieve a textural effect. Japanese lanterns are a recurring theme in Kelly's works focusing on the different shades of light and patterns created by the paper lanterns. Paper lanterns are frequenlty seen in the summertime during traditional Japanese festivals, and thus the title "Summer Nights".
