I've long been fascinated by false narratives, images that verge on the believable. The Cottingley Fairies, the Loch Ness Monster, Big Foot. All have captured my imagination, as they have for many others, through decades of folklore and storytelling. Our need for the undiscovered and fantastical keeps our imaginations malleable. In a world where most things can be scientifically explained, we still crave the unexplained, something almost fairytale like. The popularity of unicorns is proof of our longing for the magical.
The Flying Cats are only two inches long and are rarely seen. They appear briefly in late summer, fluttering and floating above glowing flowers before vanishing into the undergrowth. I claim to have captured these images after years of patient hiding in abundant flower fields. Watching, waiting, and hoping for a glimpse of something impossible.
This is a drypoint print made with a Dremel drill on aluminium. The colour is applied by printing a colour monoprint over the black and white.
Edition of 50, also available unframed. £350(Framed) £250(Unframed)
