“Loaded brushstrokes of watercolour glide across the surface in transparent bands of colour that sit in different spaces depending on how much pigment or pressure is applied. I like to think of these brushstrokes like bands of elastic that push and pull the tension in the painting in different directions. Black spots hover between these spaces and are created by drips of paint that fall from a distance and form perfect circles when landing on the picture plane. The tension of the work is hung on a fine balancing act between the unpredictability of the human hand and the perfection of the surface and materials."
