He was equally inspired by Griggs.
Though a lesser known member of the Goldsmiths 'band', he was the only one to be awarded the Prix de Rome (1926), the year the Fine Art Society published 37 of his etchings. He spent three years at the British School in Rome, and travelling widely around southern Europe.
In 1934 he was appointed lecturer in engraving at Leeds College of Art, and in 1941, Principal of the Penzance School of Art, when he settled permanently in Cornwall.
Hoyton exhibited at the Royal Academy and with the St Ives Society of Artists, of which, for a period, he was Vice-President and Chairman.
This original etching is signed in pencil from an edition of 75. On cream laid paper with a Fool's Cap watermark. A couple of small accidental marks in the plate.
