Tate | Stand W11
Tate is a family of four galleries: Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives. Founded as the National Gallery of British Art by Sir Henry Tate in 1897, it quickly became known as the Tate Gallery after its founder. Tate's mission today is to increase public knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of British art from 1500, and modern and contemporary art from 1900 to the present day. We do this by facilitating extraordinary experiences through our collection and an inspiring programme of exhibitions and events in and beyond our galleries in the UK and internationally. Tate holds the UK’s national collection of British art from 1500 to the present day and international modern and contemporary art. The collection embraces all media, from painting, drawing, sculpture and prints to photography, video and film, installation and performance.
Tate has been producing artists’ limited editions since 2000 with the launch of the Tate Modern: Ten Artists, Ten Images portfolio on the occasion of the opening of Tate Modern. After the success of this portfolio, Tate has been inviting artists from our programme and collection to create new limited edition artworks including silkscreen prints, etchings, unique paintings, photographic prints and three-dimensional objects. Each work is either signed by the artist or is accompanied by a certificate.
With proceeds from the sale directly supporting Tate, our Limited Editions programme is an effective and innovative way for us to raise vital funds. It enables a wide public to own and live with the art of our time and allows us to support artists in making new works by covering all the production costs and offering payment to artists.
