The Fine Art Society Ltd.
LOPF Online Exclusive
Established in 1876, The Fine Art Society handles Scottish and British art, design, and decorative arts from the 18th century to the post-war period. Our Scottish base is an expansive gallery over two floors in the heart of Edinburgh's New Town. We also run a framing and conservation studio from the premises. We have a long history of exhibiting and selling prints beginning with our exhibitions of Old Master and contemporary artists’ prints from 1879. In 1882, the Society of Painter Etchers held their inaugural exhibition at our gallery, the first Western exhibition of Hokusai’s prints was held at The Fine Art Society in 1890, and we commissioned and exhibited Whistler’s first and second Venice sets. Each January we hold an exhibition of 19th and 20th century printmaking.
We provide advice to collectors and public institutions on private sales, auction, framing and conservation. Our exhibition programme enriches, support and expands the market for historical fine art and design. As one of the oldest fine art dealers in the UK, we continue to handle many of the most influential artists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
