This woodblock printmaker combines traditional woodblock printmaking with his unique style. Having begun as an oil painter of abstract works, Morimura is unusual in using oil-based inks rather than the traditional water-based inks. His images are usually of traditional real life landscapes, but he combines this with geometric and abstract patterns bringing a modern angle to the images. His intricate woodblock carvings exemplify minute details. His works are included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
