This woodblock printmaker combines traditional woodblock printmaking with his unique style. Having begun as an oil painter of abstract works, Morimura is unusual in using oil-based inks rather than the traditional water-based inks. His images are usually of traditional real life landscapes, but he combines this with geometric and abstract patterns bringing a modern angle to the images. This work shows the house and studio of ceramist Kawai Kanjiro in Kyoto, which is now a museum. His intricate woodblock carvings exemplify minute details. His works are included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
