The artist is one of Japan's foremost woodblock print artists, having worked for forty years as the assistant of Kiyoshi Saito (1907-1997), a founder of the Japanese sosaku printmaking movement. Ohtsu has developed his own style, and usually travels to the location of his scenes before creating an image. The result is a powerful combination of soft and sometimes vibrant colours, with the four seasons playing a major role in his works.
