Paula Rego generously made the limited edition, Rumpelstiltskin, in 2016 in support of Tate, inspired by a conversation she had with Sir Nicolas Serota, Director of Tate 1988 - 2017, where she asked him to name his favourite fairy tale.
Rego said of the edition: “The miller’s daughter is distraught. She has a roomful of straw which the king wants her to spin into gold and she doesn’t know how to do it. Rumpelstiltskin promises to help but she’s frightened he’ll take the gold away with him.”
