Susan Goethel Campbell’s Lost City prints are part of an ongoing series that focuses on bird's-eye views of cities and atmospheric phenomena. Each work is comprised of two layers of mulberry paper printed in various tones and colors from a birch matrix. The wood grain patterns are suggestive of water or terrestrial surfaces, and the networks of artificial lights are created with tiny hand-punched holes. These perforations are made either just through the top layer, to expose the color of the printed paper below, or through both sheets, to let the bright white of the backing board shine through as highlights.
