Morgan O’Hara draws in real time with both hands to track closely observed movement into accumulations of graphite lines, combining the controlled refinement of classical drawing with the sensuality of spontaneous gesture. O’Hara made the drawing for this print during a performance by the New York band Drawn to Sound. The artist tracked the movement of the hands of three musicians—performing on trombone, laptop, and percussion—on ten sheets of tracing paper. Each sheet was used to make a separate screen, and the resulting print is built up from ten layers of printed marks, ranging from pale gray to deep graphite.
