Literature: Donovan 10.

A beautiful impression of this rare print. Small margins, as issued. Framed.

In 1899, Nordfeldt came to Paris from Chicago to work on a mural project at the Paris Exposition of 1900. There, the artist briefly studied at the Académie Julien before finding his own studio. The next year Nordfeldt travelled to England where he studied printmaking with Frank Morley Fletcher (1866-1949), a master printmaker specializing in Japanese woodcut technique. Nordfeldt was greatly inspired by the Japanese art himself, and he incorporated its artistic motifs into his small oeuvre of woodcuts in ukiyo-e style produced between 1903 and 1907.
