Karhu is well-known for his vivid colours and strong black lines which carefully make up his compilations of traditional Japanese architecture. His images are mostly of Kyoto streets and buildings, of which this print "Kiyamichi" is an example of a district famous for its dining and cherry blossoms. Karhu's works are represented in the collections of the British Museum and Boston Fine Arts Museum among others.
