PRATT CONTEMPORARY, founded in 1977 as a fine art printing and publishing studio, has evolved through a multitude of different activities including sculpture, painting and drawing. In 1987 it was the first print studio invited to exhibit at the London Original Print Fair, the world’s longest-running fair dedicated to prints.

Since 1994 PRATT CONTEMPORARY has been a member of the IFPDA (International Fine Print Dealers Association), a non-profit organisation of leading art dealers, galleries and publishers with expertise in the field of fine prints.

For the 40th Anniversary Edition of the London Original Print Fair we are focusing on a group of monotypes by Alison Lambert, all of which are included in her current exhibition of new drawings at Derby Museum and Art Gallery: Human Explorations: Heads and Myths, (to 4 May 2025).

Many of Lambert’s recent monotypes are the result of experimenting with two plates to produce a single, unique work. Whilst she begins with a particular idea or theme, the monotype process is fluid and unpredictable, permitting accidents and radical changes to occur during the inking and combining of plates. The process has enabled her to create effects with a visual richness that closely relates to her large charcoal drawings on paper and whilst the relative sizes of these two mediums are very different the atmosphere, mood and sense of scale are consistent across both.
